Sexy Swollen Lips and Hot Sweat eating at Thai Food Stall (Restoran Sang Kee KCB), Kampung Cheras Baru

30 March 2016 - It caught my attention when I passed by Restoran Sang Kee KCB in Kampung Cheras Baru last night. Little did I know is that there were at least 10-15 tables of people ordering thai food from a food stall. You can also get to eat Malay Nasi Lemak and Chinese wok-fry serving Ala carte noodles or rice.

Looking at the dimmed old signboard of the restaurant, uncles drinking beer like their usual daily routine, and with the slow wall fan, cooler, and the old 'dirty' floors, you will not be impressed with the atmosphere at all.

Therefore, I bring along my lady musketeers in my family, my mom and sister to take up the challenge of the Thai food. Well, you can't order many things and eat by yourself alone, right?

Made the right choice pulling in the ladies. We have not tried some real spicy food for quite some time, let's say few months back? You can find Thai food anywhere, any food stall in most of the coffee shop, an independent retail shop, some even go into fine dining concept in shopping centres, but the good ones, nah, not really easy to find too.

Flipping the menu, and you can only food photos with Thailand words. Someone help them to translate into Chinese words.

Ask what to recommend to eat, the server seems don't really understand Malay. she ended up pointing the menu, and we just nod our head saying we want that dish. To eat Thailand food in Malaysia, or to go to Thailand to have their local food, more or less you will be ordering what we have ordered.

Some food photos has been repeated because my sister, Jac, took very nice photos using her Samsung S6. Normally I post 1 photo for each food, in this case, full photo album for your pleasure.

Charcoal red seafood Tomyam RM 20. super tasty, with the charcoal fire in low heat. You will be surprised, they are generous giving you large green mussels, medium size prawns, medium-sized squids, abalone mushrooms, tomatoes, and onions. this is a 2 pax portion for your info.

Next, here comes the spicy sour steamed tilapia fish on charcoal as well. Price at RM 35. Fresh and lots of meats, giving you the tangerine lemon taste, hot chilli padi, 'swimming' on the clear soup. Very nice.

Spicy Sambal Petai with medium-sized prawns RM20. Some people anti-petai though, the smell can be as strong as durian. By eating this as our 3rd dish, we hardly feel our tongue, given three of us get a swollen bee lips and sweat like a pig.

Finally, Kam Heong Lala at RM18. I think Kam Heong is not a Thailand cooking style, it's from the Chinese. We normally see Kam Heong (Golden Fragrance) style to cook along with the shell seafood. The ingredients needed to cook Kam Heong: 1 tbsp curry powder, 2 chilli padi (bird's eye chili), 1/2 tbsp Taucheo (soy bean paste/豆酱) slightly pounded, and 2 sprigs curry leaves. So far, I have not taste any bad Kam Heong seafood.

Price is okay, we spend RM 96 for everything, given the flavorful Thailand food taste as if we are in Thailand. Highly recommend if you can take up spicy food or if you are in love with Thailand food.

Suki Jezz 's Mom Home Cooked Food during CNY

8 Feb 2016 - The reason why we must go back home during CNY is to have the reunion dinner together as a family. A reason to gather, the reason to share stories, to laugh, and to enjoy a good family meal.

I was surprised that my mom decided to cook during CNY Day 2. Normally we just eat takeaway food that are packed outside. She claimed she is busy. *eyes rolling. Actually, she is busy with her WeChat and karaoke gang.

However, I myself is not a great cook, normally I will just do the 'rojak' style, mixing all ingredients and make porridge or soup, or simply pan fry some vegetables. I have phobia in steaming fish always, probably I am afraid of the fish will be overcooked.

So these are the dishes of the day :

Chinese Ginger wine soup with chicken and ginger.

Ginger Wine Chicken Recipe

  • 500g chicken breast

  • 3 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
Cooking Instructions:

1. In a large wok, heat sesame oil over high heat. Add garlic and ginger and cook for 2 minutes, until fragrant.

2. Add the chicken and cook for 2 minutes, till the chicken has browned slightly. Add water and cover the chicken for 3 minutes.

3. Then, pour in the ginger wine and place the cover back on and cook for another 5 minutes.

4. Season with salt and serve immediately. you can enhance flavors by preparing chilli padi in soy sauce.

Fried You Mak vegetable and white cut chicken.

White Cut Chicken/ Chinese Poached Chicken, originally from Cantonese cuisine, referred as cold dish. It is different with the cooking way of Chinese steamed chicken.

White Cut Chicken/ Chinese Poached Chicken Recipe
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes

  • 1 whole chicken
  • 4 ginger slices
  • 2 green onions. tie knot.
  • 1 tablespoon cooking wine
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper/ Sichuan peppercorn seeds (optional)
  • sesame oil for brushing
  • coriander (for decoration)
To prepare ginger and scallion oil as a dipping sauce:
  • 2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped green part scallion
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped coriander stems
  • 4 scallion whites, cut into pieces
  • 2-3 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons from chicken broth. you may use back the same water which you poach the chicken.

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Clean the chicken and remove feet and head.
  2. In a large pot, add chicken, green onion, pepper/ Sichuan peppercorn (optional) and 3-4 slices of ginger and cooking wine. Then pour enough water to cover the chicken.
  3. Switch into medium fire and continue let it cook for 8 minutes (see note 1 for the adjusting of the time needed). Turn off the fire, cover the lid and let the chicken stay for around 20 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, prepare enough iced water. Transfer the chicken out and soak it with iced water. Turn over the chicken several times until the chicken is completely cooled down.
  5. Brush some sesame oil on surface and then cut into chunks and lay in the serving bowl.
  • To make the ginger and scallion dip sauce:
  1. In a small bowl, mix grated ginger with chopped green onion and coriander. Heat up 2 to 3 tablespoons cooking oil in wok or deep pan. Add scallion white to fry over low heat fire until the scallion white becomes slightly brown and you smell a strong fragrance.
  2. Pour the hot oil into the small bowl with other seasonings. Add 2 tablespoons water from the chicken broth (water which you poach the chicken). Add a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  3. Put the dipping sauce next to the chicken. Dip as desired.

Steamed chinese sausages Recipe:

  • Chinese sausages
  • 1 table spoon of soy sauce and 1 table spoon of sesame oil as seasoning
Cooking Instructions:
  1. Remove the Chinese sausages from string and thin plastic layer. Put the sausages in pot along with boiling water that is enough to cover. boil it for 10 minutes. This is to remove all the excess fats.
  2. Drain the sausages aside. slice the sausages at a diagonal into 1/4" thick slices. place the sausage slices onto a plate that you can steam.
  3. Steam the sausage for another 10-15 minutes, or till it is soft for you to poke the sausage using chopsticks.
  4. Turn off the heat, and place the dish aside. Pour some soya sauce and sesame oil sauce as seasoning. Serve.

Steamed Chinese sausage and preserved duck leg rice

There are many different ways of cooking Chinese sausage rice. Some prefer to use overnight rice, as it won't be sticky. Some prefer to fried chinese sausage rice. If you prefer to steam the sausage without mixing it into rice cooker: Cook the rice until the water is almost absorbed, place the sausage gently on the surface of the rice.

Steamed Lap Cheong Rice Recipe 蒸臘腸飯

  • 2 cups rice (for 2 pax), depending how many pax
  • 2-4 Lap Cheong
  • 1 preserved duck
  • 2 cups water (approx)
  • Rice Cooker
Cooking Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice with water until the water runs pretty clear. This rinses the starch out, allowing the final rice to be fluffy with each grain of rice separate. *By the way, if you don't want to waste the starch water, you can use it to water the plants.
  2. Add water using the measurement markings on the inside of pot. If you have 1 1/2 cup rice then add water to the 1 1/2 mark, etc. Very easy!
  3. Remove Lap Cheong from the strings and the thin plastic wrap. Rinse off briefly. Add the lap cheong and preserved duck into the rice cooker pot. Put the pot into the rice cooker and press the rice cooker cook button.
  4. When the rice is cooked, remove Lap Cheong and slice at a diagonal into 1/4" thick slices . Chop the preserved duck into cubes. Put back the lap cheong and preserved duck leg into the rice, and stir all up. You can add in some soya sauce to enhance the rice color into brownish, but it is not necessary, because the lap cheong gives you sweet flavour, and the preserved duck leg is very salty.
  5. Serve hot with your bowls of fragrantly flavored rice!

Let's stay healthy and fit together - I want to be your personal trainer

7 August 2015 - After all those stress, the craving food, and almost no time left for my alone time, I hit the gym finally. It's a YES....

Went to 7 Days Fitness in Lakefield. Yes, it is spacious, and they have a giant fan on top of ceiling for air validation. However, not really hygiene or clean.

This is me kickstart dumbbell workout.

During the weekends, in the early morning, since baby is sleeping, sneak out at 7am, a brisk jog of 2km around my house on the hill. Smelling the trees scent in the morning, unfortunately it was bad haze during this time.

so I went back home to continue my workout: this time is body weight workout.

Sit up

I am not putting on sport shoes, as I am in my house, trying to take photos and recording the video for you to view some body weight workout routine. It is still advisable to put on sport shoes to avoid any sports injury.

I do admit I am not a good video recorder, as it diverts my attention in focusing doing workouts, as I have to check the posture while ensure my phone is taking the right angles of the photos and video record.

I speed up the whole workout routine, just for you to see. My actual workout is 15-20 reps, and repeat the same workout 3 sets at least. My target is to burn fat and firm up my muscle.

Youtube link:

I have done the following workouts:
  • Push up
  • Push up with leg cross on the ground
  • Lunges (just make sure your knees are before your foot toes, assuming you want to see your toes and not your knees over your toes)
  • Jumping squats
  • shoulder front raise + squats (sorry, don't have dumbbell at that time)
  • Back Tricep dips
  • Sit-up
  • Lower Back Exercise - Bird Dog (I am bad in balancing, oops)
  • Shoulder press using baby as weight
  • Modified V-sits with baby as weight
  • Stretching

Normally I get the workout program based on what I have learned when I was a personal trainer, and get more inspiration of workout online. I don't sell any online workout or a guarantee workout program because I prefer to be your real personalized trainer.

Suki Jezz Workout Diary 1: Circuit Training and Cable Machine Workout

29 March 2016 - Here is my fitness workout diary. You will rarely see my personal photos in my blog, probably I am not a selfie person, and I have more food and travel photos in my phone more than any other picture.

The reason I am blogging is to tell you that you and I can achieve a healthy life. all you need is 1-2 hours a day, 2 days a week to achieve a fitter healthy life.

So, this is me, workout alone in a local modern gym in Cheras. Charging per entry fee, and also monthly fee is available as well. I am looking for workout partner, or perhaps I can become your personal trainer. Used to work in fitness First as a certified Personal trainer, nothing much to fancy about, but I can assure the right workout and a proper diet the right way, and I help you to achieve your workout target.

Before you start your exercise, make sure you are fit enough and don't over do it. Take an energy bar as a snack, 30 minutes to 1 hour before you exercise.

Today I decide to go for ‪‎circuittraining‬ n machine ‪workout‬ in the gym, I repeat each workout 2-3 sets, with each set is 15-20 reps.

Cable Machine are good to lock your body, and to allow you to work on specific muscle parts.
1) Leg‬ ‪‎extension‬ n reverse

2) ‪‎Lat‬ Pulldown

3) ‪Pectoral‬/ chest fly (make sure you pull in more than you spread out, while you exercise. For ladies, the mission is to firm your chest to support your breasts (fats), and not making your chest wider.

4) Lower back exercise

Dumbbell Weight - Lock your position, yet allow you to rotate at suitable angles.
5) Palms-Up Dumbbell Wrist Curl

Fitball Exercise - to strengthen your core muscle and challenge your balancing

6) ‪Abs‬ exercise with leg holding ‪fitball‬

7) Hamstring curl + butt squeeze using fitball

Body weight workout - You will be surprised, using your own body weight can be so challenging and 'heavy'
8) VMO floor extension (Strengthens the inner thigh muscle to balance the pull on the knee joint). For me, I put both of my legs straight on the floor, instead of bending my knee. I need this because I hurt my knww before. Most people did not realize how powerful this knee exercise can be, don't believe? challenge yourself.

More info:

Cable crossover machine is good because it opens to all multiple angles and positions, with its cables able to help you back to the positions.

9) Upper ‪chest‬ lift up

10) Cable Rear Delt Fly

11) Reverse cable woodchop

Video example:

Circuit training is a form of body conditioning or resistance training using high-intensity aerobics. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. alternative ways using the threadmills.
12) jumping ‪squats‬ + little arms exercise

13) Front Lunges + Side Lunges + Curtsy Lunges + Crossover Lunges (I can feel my butts really working out, finally!)

Front lunges

Side lunges

curtsey lunge (where i feel my buttocks burning sensation)

Crossover lunges (The same burning ass sensation)

14) push up + spider crawl/ spiderman push up. I like this one a lot, you really feel it's tough, especially when you can crawl like the Spiderman. Now, we know Spiderman isn't an easy job!

15) push up + kick your legs & move your feet back in towards your chest (without machine as per the photo)

And I am totally burnt out!

Normally I get the workout program based on what I have learned when I was a personal trainer, and get more inspiration of workout online. I don't sell any online workout or a guarantee workout program because I prefer to be your real personalized trainer.

The Supper Night @ Suzi's Corner Ampang - Local and Western Steak

5 Feb 2016 - I was driving home to Ampang as the usual routine. The time was 9pm, and I have a sudden crave for supper, of course, you will always get the usual feeling of guilty only after finishing the food.

Anyway, manage to drive to Suzi's Corner and park aside. Not easy to find parking, as their narrow parking pretty much has a lot of cars at such time. Manage just to quickly squeeze my small car at road side, bring along my baby to buy the food.

Reached Suzi's Corner, and you get to see local and western food stalls, such as satay, fried noodles and rice, tandoori chicken, roti naan, steak, burgers, and much more. How long does Suzi's Corner have been operating? Since 1984. Go there in your casual wear, as fans, bright lights, normal chairs and tables with the hot humid weather in Malaysia gonna welcome, even if it's during night time.

The place was packed, with many expats, to my surprise. some just ordered a bottle of beer to match along the local food. Fret not, Suzi's corner is HALAL and pork-free. they just serve beer in bottles.

Notice that the local Chinese operates a pork-free steak house - Steak Hut. Serving different kind of chicken chop, lamb chop, beef steak, served with french fries and mash potatoes. I did not order the steak as it is way too much for me, but seeing the reviews online, it seems most of them recommend the steak and western food.

So these are the items that I have packed.

I bought this cheese nan. I have not been eating roti canai and nan for years, so thought to give a try since, it looks appealing, with the big red stove for them to make naan and tandoori chicken. I remembered I do like butter nan but they are not selling it. End up bought cheese nan, it is a far cry. Combine fat cheese with nan that is full of flour, this 'compactful' carbohydrate is really a big let down for me. Totally don't like it. 2 bites, and I had put aside.

Mexican Burrito wrap with lamb meat fillings. and to be served with tacos aside. I love this, less than RM 10 only. And they made fresh and prepare upon order. the melted cheese, tomatoes, lamb meat, and refried beans as the fillings, being wrapped by a lightly grilled wheat flour tortilla. what I like is that they don't put rice inside. some mexican burrito has rice as fillings in it.

Ordered this fried keoy teow. Can smell and taste the 'fry-wok' aroma, frying the noodles with vegetables, beancurd, and chicken cubes. A lime is by set aside to give yourself a twict of sour tangerine to go along with the fried noodles. However, very oily and nothing much shout about, at least it is appetizing. The price is around RM 8 per plate.

Overall, I believe the extra food stallers are merely renting the stall and try to sell their specialty food. Noticed the cashier and other operators are Indian Muslim or sometimes, they are being referred as Mamak. Price is slightly more expensive than the normal mamak shop. And you can smoke Shisha in their restaurant.

The Craft Beer Shop, Seremban - HandCraft Beer

8 Feb 2016 - Got to know a long time photographer, David Ng, where he used to do event photography shooting in G6 club, opened his own handcraft beer in Seremban. Now what is it so special with handcraft beer to be compared with the commercialized beer like Carlsberg, Tiger, Guinness Stout?

A traditional craft brewer are normally small, independent, and traditional. Craft beers tell you a story from its origin country, seems like bringing in ingredients that we haven't taste elsewhere. Craft brewers normally face many challenges including entering the consumer market, cost of raw materials and ingredients and tax.

You can drink more than 100 kinds of craft beers sourced from the finest, independent micro-breweries from all over the world in The Craft Beer Shop by David Ng.

Shelf display with a glow of light, showcasing many handcraft beer bottles and wines bottles from all around the world. Just like a compelling art on the shelf.

You have to walk upstairs, and it is smoking area, therefore, elderly, OKU and children are not advisable to go to the secret lounge.

I wanted something similar with HoeGarden, and David recommended me to her - Blanche De Bruxelles / Manneken Pis Belgian White. Blanche is from Belgium, she is white. Pale yellow with white head. Hmm, the scent of white grape. light and smooth texture together as you sip. Perfect white girl. Oops, not sure if it's a female or a male!

Please meet our craft beer family that we have chosen along:

  • Adnams Ghost Ship (sound spooky) - inspiration from Adnams 600-year-old haunted pub, The Bell. Brewed with a selection of malts - Pale Ale, Rye Crystal and Cara. Citra, and a blend of other American hop varieties to create some great citrus flavours. Adnams from UK.
  • Adnams SouthWole Dry Hopped Lager - Brewed with Pilsner malt, This golden lager is light, crisp and refreshing with subtle malty flavours and a super hoppy aroma of tropical fruits, citrus and passionfruit. Adnams from UK.
  • Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale | Kiuchi Brewery - Complex sake like flavors with malt sweet notes. Hints of strawberries in the nose and palate. An intriguing mix of sake, malt , and bitter notes in the finish. Surprised how sake can mix well with beer. Hitachino from Japan.
  • Hitachino Nest Lager - Hitachino Nest Lager is a bottom fermented beer with light color. Please enjoy the well-balanced taste of malt and light flavor of hops. Hitachino from Japan.

Most beer contains 5-8% of alcohol while some claim since beer is made of malt, it is suitable for vegetarian people! Price range is RM 20-30.

Each individual beer brand is one of a kind, sharing a history of where is it from. You get to see each bottle of handcraft beer displays the creativity and passion of its maker and the complexity of its ingredients.

David had a quick chat with me, sharing some basic info of the differences between craft beers and the normal beer. Asking him why does he didn't display a signboard indicating his shop. He says he prefer to have his place to be mystery hidden in a relaxing lounge. Want to see how big is the lounge area? indoor air-conditioned lounge area, with relaxing sofa and chairs and coffee table.

Special local food in Taman Midah, Cheras

18 Feb - March 2016 - When you are looking for special local food based on blog recommendation, you won't really see much of online advertisement and even hardly seeing them through any lifestyle food apps.

This is when you start to look for blog or friend's recommendation.

You came to the right blog. In here, I will share what I love about unique food in Taman Midah, Cheras.

Cheras is a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, the capital metropolis of Malaysia. The township is located to the south-east of Kuala Lumpur. Cheras is also adjacent to Ampang to the north and Kajang to the south, both of which are major cities within the metropolitan area of Kuala Lumpur.

Taman Midah is a small old neighbourhood, some of us might know the Taman as Bolton. Don't know why it has been changed.

So where do I get food recommendation? Family and friends bring me to the foodie place.

Crystal Clear Thick Mee hoon and Thin Mee Hoon at Kedai Kopi Soon Fatt

You can see the crystal noodle (thick noodle), rice noodle (mee hoon), and ipoh slice noodle means 'Ho Fun' or 'Keoy Teow'. the speciality is that all their meatball, fishball and seafood ball are handmade. Normally all will be sold out before lunch time.

Ordered the mixed balls, thick crystal noodle, and pumpkin soup base. Vegetables so that you won't feel that meaty. finish every drop of the soup and never left anything in the bowl.

It's my first time try this Sengkuang snack... big oval piece of Jicama or turnip, a layer of dark red sauce similar with rojak sauce, and toppings of peanuts, sugar and crispy pop? Seller told me it's a childhood snack but i can't recall eating it...cooling snack in such a hot weather at night!

Others interesting Taman Midah local food is the chicken rice is Fifth Avenue local Chinese coffee shop, next to an independent pharmacy.
