One day trip to Mantin and Bukit Pelanduk

6 Nov 2018 - Special thanks to the retired uncle KT Micro Tours - Home Cook Chef, Tour Travel for bringing us for a simple food tour at Bukit Pelandok.

#BukitPelanduk: Deer Hill from direct Translation, famous for the Nipah Virus which gained World Headlines. Pigs Rearing has long been Banned. Bukit Pelandok hit the headlines in 1999 when when the JE Nipah virus killed more than 100 Foo Chow pig farmers and caused one million pigs to be culled.

On 6/11/2018. KTMT organized a 1 day Tour to this small Town. Mantin/Bukit Pelanduk /Port Dickson Tour.

10am: Met at Mantin for the Lar Char Mee.

See the pity hidden roadside stalls? The first stall is the one selling the la zhar mee, dirty noodles. 拉渣面。

The Lar Char Mee was exceptional delicious. The bowl of dirty noodle is using laksa noodle and crispy pork balls. Normally they have the pork blood curd and pork intestine, but we were late and all almost sold off.

The curry soup base was moderate. Go for the watery dry noodles style instead.

10.15-11am: Travelling to Bukit Pelanduk. When we googled about Bukit Pelanduk, most people revisited the place, due to the movie of 'THINK BIG BIG'.

11am-3pm: a) Straight to the Jetty Terminal. More than 50years old Service.  JETTY TERMINAL.....Rm2 per Bike with Passengers. Opposite is Sg Pelek. The Journey by Car takes 45mins while by Ferry is a cool 3mins.

It is a big river. Hence, there are few river bank where rhe residents will choose to cross over using a simple ferry.

Residents who walk or ride bicycles and motorbikes can get onto the boat and cross Lorong Sungai Bawah 3 to the other side within minutes. Ask the locals where you can have a look at the motorbikes crossing over the river scene.

Of course, it makes no sense to pay for a short ferry ride, when all the government or the local community need to do is build a solid bridge.

For this, uncle charges biker RM2 to go across the river, and RM1 for those without riding a bike on the ferry.

b) Light Breakfast at Restoran #LoongHin for Buns n DimSum.

For this, I quite like their homemade glutinous rice (loh mai gai) and mini pork dumping (siew mai).

Their bun has too much flour and little fillings.

Their coffee was awesome with smooth coffee aroma taste, not gao gao or frothy though.

c) A brief Visit to the Chinese Temple opposite to Loong Hin coffee shop. It is a newly build chinese temple,

also my first time seeing 'rock' god with reddish stains on top.

d) Stop over at #SweeTin 瑞珍饼家 Biscuits Factory. Have been operating since 1960. Just slightly opposite the Shell Petrol Kiosk. Takeaway some Tau Sar Pan n a quick Tour of their Factory.

If you think you are sick of the normal mini tau sar piah/ tambun biscuits from penang / ipoh, this will change your thoughts, baking fresh daily and not the usual tau siah, you can even choose sweet or salty type.

They bake all their traditional chinese baked flaky pastry biscuits filled with a sweet or savoury filling made from grounded mung beans (tau sar),

on top of a big reverse black wok (like those BAR.B.Q Plaza grilling pan aka dinosaur egg in my definition)

e) Turned into Jalan 100 Ekar to visit the Joss Sticks Factory, located outside the entrance of Bai Ji xuan Restaurant.

Check out the uncle and his workers making giant big joss sticks. Seems adding bamboo sticks, coal mixture to make the giant joss sticks.

f) Lunch at Restoran #BAIJIXUAN, took Photos n explored harvesting n rearing of Clams. Located in Bukit Pelandok as well, Bai Ji Xuan restaurant was famous because of the local movie of "THINK BIG BIG" again.

Located by the river side and surrounded by mangroves, and by surprise, there is least smelly river, unlike those near to the port klang or kuala selangor.

You will need to drive through small village kampong roads to enter into Bai Ji Xuan.

They claim bai ji xuan is a floating restaurant, but actually it is located next to the serenity river.
so, the cook prepared all home made cooking. They don't have google map, gps, waze, no namecard. the traditional way which is you need to ask the family staff for their contact number if you want to make booking or specifically want to pre-order some of their famous home made dishes.

Out of all, the braised pork meat and hokkien fried thin noodles were well-done.

Refreshing passion fruit water.

the sesame fried chicken was dry and moderate.

Their home made sambal full of fresh onions cuts, crispy anchovies, being the perfect blend of spices along with their home made food.

you can instagram a cute entrance at the corner of the restaurant.

stairs are very steep, so it is not for eldery and it is not OKU friendly.

Private boat ride at RM200, one of the guys in the family is the boat owner. need to pre-book in advance.

Read online there is water bike service available for you to pedal along, but it was raining, and we didn't get the chance to do so.

Bai Ji Xuan closed every Thusday. Don't expect get all information online, okay? I doubt they have Facebook page also.

Overall, they seem friendly, but keep offering us local kuih like sweet potato cake, and I didn't know they about to charge us RM2 until we ask! We have to reject them politely, knowing that they will be charging us without informing us upfront.

And a tiny dishes, for 5 adults, 2 kids, we were charged at RM 60-70, I suspect they see that we are from outstation, and there is no menu, no fixed price, so well...just feel that it is not really worth or was it even that expensive?

3pm-3.30pm: Travelling to Port Dickson.

3.30pm-4.30pm: Stop at this Windmill PD Farm. We thought it was a windmill instagram area, turned out a windmill outside of an animal farm! Aiyo, why so many animal being locked up as pet's zoo farm nowadays?

Plus, it was raining, so we just took selfie and went to Port Dickson Beach with the entrance next to the beautiful Klana Beach Resort.

Surprisingly, the beach near to Klana resort is so much cleaner and nicer. My past few visits to PD beach was horrible. Black sands, and super dirty.

However, we didn't really swim or allow the kids to play water, just went there for some sea breeze sound therapy and an eye looking at the beach nature, then selfie.

4.30pm-5.30pm: Travelling back to Mantin via Seremban to avoid Jam.

###

Overall, I think it is a good foodie trip and a way for the kids to check out the ferry ride, village life, and some local food.
