Portugese Settlement Village - Seaview at night, Seafood Portugese food at San Pedro

27 Oct 2019 - Portugese Village/ Portugese Settlement

A breeze Seaview seeing the tallest building in melaka - silverscape residence tower blocks above the elements mall, under the development of the hatten city.

This Portuguese settlement was also named as St John's village.

A stretch of Portuguese seafood restaurants calling you to come to support their stalls.

The kristang people are a mix of Portuguese and malay heritage, where we still able to see the kristang locals still living the village kampong house where the older family still working as a fisherman, which explains their main good food is always fresh seafood.

Kristang practice roman Catholic which you will enjoy the great Xmas lights decorated at their village houses during Xmas season. The month of June is also Portuguese community great celebration, where they celebrate feast of St John and feast of Saint Peter, with lots of music and dancing. You can see the Portuguese locals has fair brown face.

Most people took a memorable photo with the 8 meter standing tall christ the redeemer statue, which almost get tear down in 2017.

Restaurant San Pedro

While most people went for the seafood restaurant stalls located near the melaka sea... We walked towards the back lane and search for this restaurante San Pedro which was receiving good reviews online.

A definite of hidden gem which no decoration or beautiful set up, one don't get cheated by its venue or ambience - the basic attap roof top, and cement flooring, and the basic furniture tables and chairs and the old school standing fans.
Some wood log set up from the outside turn out to be the door entrance.

We ordered the baked fish with Portuguese slight spicy sauce, curry debal chicken, fried brinjal, and fried rice.

We waited for quite a while, a 20mins at least, and they turn out they prefer to serve all dishes at once.

Everything was cooked and grilled to perfection. I and husband were thinking how the grilled brinjal, such a simple vegetable can be so delicious. Their signature baked Portuguese fish is a fresh fish with its bright red chilli paste, but then again... It goes well with white rice rather than its hot. I would say all the food in melaka shows the bright red chilli sauce everywhere but its not as spicy as the malay or Thailand food, really.

Curry debal aka curry devil chicken flavored with candlenuts, galangal, vinegar. This fiery looking curry color churns out the lemongrass taste, but not super spicy. I just remember we keep mixing the rice only with the leftover Portuguese sauce from the chickens and fish cause it was so good.

Fried rice was to settle the kids cause the other two dishes contain spicy curry base. However even the fried rice was a thumb up delicious carbo dish.
