Restoran Choong huat - classic steamboat, grilled fish, chicken wings, garlic grill prawns

20 June 2018 - Mom was craving for steamboat yet simple type, nothing fancy. For a steamboat, the soup base, chilli sauce, and freshness of the ingredients are equally important.

Was recommended by apple to try Restoran Choong huat, yulek Cheras. A glance of the menu price seems to be pricey, for Eg vegetables at rm6-7, turned out they give you quite a big plate or portion.
So if you come here and like varieties, come with family or big group.

The grilled sting ray with some lemongrass tang, but not lying down on banana leaves. The best is it's tangerine sweet mild spicy dipping chilli sauce (lime, soy sauce, shallots).

Deep fried dumplings with fresh minced meats, bbq chicken wings served before we wait for the steamboat ingredients. All good.

Qq tofu can be better if they didn't cut it in Thin slices form. Otherwise, mushrooms, cheese tofu all are fresh and delicious.

Steamboat soup base: clear Chicken soup and hot pepper soup. Their hot pepper soup was boiled using fresh peppers that almost chocked and too spicy to be pair with steamboat ingredients.

I read from a blog that it's a must to order garlic grilled prawns where it was done in 20-30 mins. It was a bad luck, as a foreigners told us it is rm3 and it was a grand dollar of rm30 per piece! We kinda feel dissapointed as there was a miscommunication in the Malay language. It was shown in the menu as illustration and for that moment for mathematics calculations, of course I thought it's a good deal and I ordered 4.

Although we know it's a very big prawn at 30gm upon presenting us the frozen prawns, we wanted to reduce the order but aunty quickly say they already cook it, and we can't say anything. End up we pay rm120 only for the four big prawns. They have options for smaller size prawns same cooking style. Just that better ask properly for the price and talk to the locals instead.

rm300 for everything,ouch.
