Esplanade Penang - Fort Cornwallis (Captain Francis Light) and Kota Cafe, modern Nyonya food

24 March 2018 - Esplanade or widely known as Padang kota lama, waterfront location, covers the Fort Cornwallis. 2 hours itinerary and review:

1) Esplanade Park Food Court. Lots of Malay food, with the infamous hameed pata mee siting having it's long queue. Didn't try as we don't have such patience to wait. Just grab some simple Malay chicken rice.

Esplanade Park Food Court
Jalan Padang Kota Lama, George Town, 10450 George Town, Pulau Pinang
Mon - Sat, 8am - 8pm, closed on Sunday

2) city hall and the field - greenery giant field, kid's playground within walking distance.

3) fort Cornwallis - largest standing fort in Malaysia.

First built in timber by Captain francis light in 1786. In 2016, Fort Cornwallis is managed by Penang state government itself. UNESCO world heritage site in 2008.

rm10-20 entrance fee and here is what you get to see: Storeroom for armaments, gunpowder, gun carriages.

Cannons and a stadium star area for any events on occasion, but that's it.

No tour guide, no big signboard, but very little to see or to experience either. No crowd, simply too quiet.

4) Kota cafe in fort Cornwallis: hidden gem in fort Cornwallis. If it wasn't advertised in Penang map I wouldn't know kota cafe, modern nyonya cuisine is located INSIDE Fort Cornwallis. See through glass design, private room, and dining area. Seeing all the chefs and FOH Staff are being winners of multiple international food award, needless to say, food presentation and the food taste are above expectations.

NYONYA rice rm25 in elegant blue pea flowers colors became the three layered nyonya rice cuisine. Delicious acar-acar alongwith rendang chicken blend the sweet, spicy, sour flavors, as the bottom gives me the surprising fresh otak otak - mackerel/ /fish fillet fillings with coconut milk and exotic spices.

KARI rm25- super spicy soft tender curry chicken served inside the big pot pie, with Benggali bread. This is so spicy yet you will keep digging in for more curry. Oh ya, too Little bread to finish up the whole curry chicken pot pie. It is like amissed when I don't have enough carbo to go along with the generous curry chicken.

Kota mojito - The refreshing lemongrass, lime, mint, chilli, sprite!

The Penang coffee is always kopi o kosong. Less bitter, yet aromatic, suits me well!
