suki Jezz First Indoor Rock Climbing

My First Indoor Rock Climbing

3rd April 2011 - Well, as any typical usual Sunday where most of us prefer to rest and spend time with family, it was amazing that I did not have any plan for my Sunday. So, I called up Dato Raymond and ask if anyone can pick me up for hiking session at Gasing Hill. Luckily, the activity was on. So, I agreed to join him and others. Dato Raymond is one guy whom you never expected to be walking as fast as a thunder! Wonder how old is him? Hmmm…never mind, he is just as young as he is (from inside). Thus, at 8am reaching Gasing hill, manage to get to see Mr Mark too. After that, off we went for breakfast of curry mee and coffee session.
After resting, I told all of them that I will be going rock climbing. “What! After hiking, you still go for rock climbing? Insane!” I just smiled back at them. “Yes, I guess, it was a coincidence that it fell on the same day as our hiking.

So at 12pm, I reached One Utama Shopping centre. At that time, I started to feel tired and lazy, and at that time, I do look bad. I finally met Mr Hansen for the first time after for so long chatting online! Then, we found the place: - Camping 5 (more info at yeepee! We went in and look for S.Yee. Thanks to S.Yee, we two lost sheep managed to know the procedure and get the necessary stuff. After taking all equipments, we went up and most of the people have arrived! The rock climbing was invited by my friend, Mr Shang, who in charge of lots of events. For those who like to join and hang out and have activities in a group – Budget Travelers
So, for the first time looking at the rocks and walls, I was like: “what??!!! My legs are shaking and the journey seems never ending!” but I did saw others climbing up as easy as ABC. I gasped a moment and went silent. Then, S.Yee came and approached me. “Would you like to try? Is this your first time?” “Yes, and I need guidelines.” She was kind enough to bring me over to another wall (should be the basic wall for beginners) “okay, now, just climb on the rocks regardless any colors, when you are good with it, then only start to step on specific colors.” So, I started to climb and grab the rocks. Wow, not easy! I was sweating and my whole body sore, but yet S.Yee kept on encourages me to go till the top. “Come on, come on, you can do it!” Finally, I made it! I made it! (Okay, might seem normal reaction for certain people, but I am glad at least I had tried)

Then, I walked back to the rock wall where others were at. I took quite a while to rest (find excuse not to climb up immediately). Mr Shang had been non-stop push us to go for it. “Come on, come on, do not waste your RM 40, just climb and go reach the peak!) He was my belayer for the rock climbing session. So this time, I started to pick on one colors for rock climbing, and of course the easier rocks still! I went up halfway and got lost. Mr Shang told me not to worry and teach me the way into how to find the solution.  In a team, there is a leader and follower, and most important, both must work together to make a success. I had learned this, and thanks to his proper clear instruction, I reached the peak again! But when I came down, I was exhausted. My hands were shaking and I can hardly talk to them. (Energy gone)
In the end, it was quite a good experience; at least I had tried for the first time in doing different new things again. So, have you tried? You never know, you might fall in love with it! But what I can see is, I am still aiming for basketball session, missing scratching people and snatching the basketball! (There are many hot guys at basketball court too)

Suki Jezz First Camping and Hiking – Mt Irau

My First Camping and Hiking – Mt Irau

Yet another day to write a blog. As what I can see, people are start following and tempted for more spices of blog. Okay, what I write is really different, because I believe everyone has their own writing way, depends on the creativity, the interesting topics. Oh well, what is the story this time? Hmm…okay, I want to let you know my very first experience in camping and hiking (boy, such an old age to start everything, huh? what to do? Although I feel young still, ha-ha! )

5th March 2011 – There are four of us, two girls and two guys (gentlemen) and off we go! From Kuala Lumpur to Cameron, all I did is – sleep, sleep and sleep. They are even amazed how I can sleep so well, despite the roads to Cameron were narrow and untamed. Finally at 730pm, we reached the foot of Mount Irau. For your information, Mt Irau is locally known as Gunung Irau at Malaysia. At 2110m, it is the 15th highest mountain in Malaysia. The peak has a border marker shared by 2 states - Pahang and Perak. To go there you have to travel to Cameron Highlands and proceed to G.Brinchang by road. You will need to hike about 3 hours to reach G.Irau from the road. The road is to be said for being the highest road in Peninsular Malaysia. Mossy forest and fairyland, cold wind and misty clouds; are some of the wonders at G.Irau as stated as others, but if you ask me, there are also avatar version and lots of… muds!
So at first, I went to say hi to Mr Emkay and Mr Jimmy (both are the organizer of the event, and very helpful person). Then, I and Kenny See had to set up the tent, but we hardly know how, thanks to the lovely friends we have, some gentlemen helped us to set up the tent. After that, our Chef Merlyn started to cook our dinner, and all I can say he really good in cooking, yeepee! We had a heavy dinner, and it was almost 10pm, we chilled around and seeing the beautiful stars above the sky and I end up doing what I was good at – sleep. Boy, it was really challenging, sleeping in a tent, with just yoga mats as our temporary bed sheets. I hardly sleep as it was terribly cold.
6th March 2011 – I rubbed my eyes and looked at my hand phone. It was only 630am, so I just woke up and went for the morning ‘business’ – toilet. “Oh my god, Jess, so early?” asked Emkay while he and his family were doing their morning prays. “Yeah, even me myself hardly believe that I wake up so early.”
We had our breakfast, quickly dressed up and cleaned up to get ready for the briefing. A simple briefing was given by Emkay and Jimmy, and amazingly, most of us were first time hikers at Mt Irau! Wow, that is cool.
And at 815am, off we go! We start hiking, climbing, taking pictures, paused for catching our breath and drank water. All I can see is mud and mud again. I sloped and almost fell, and then stood back up and started walking again. Luckily, I had my husband with me (my husband is music) to motivate me to keep on going and never stop to snake a while. Kenny said: “very very very beautiful!” “Yeah, yeah!” I replied. Eventually, I hardly replied her, as I wanted to go up fast and reached the peek.

Finally at 11am, we reached the place. I can tell you, it was really amazing, you will not regret going there. The scene was beautiful, and we were in the middle of both states – Pahang and Perak, it was a twinning hiking program, nah, just joking.
So we rested and had some snacks, took some pictures, and off we went back down. This was always that weird, when we go up, we are in a rush, and never managed to get pictures or really observed the surroundings; but when we went down, that is the time when we know we had achieved it, and by doing something to reward ourselves, we appreciate the greens, the surroundings and see what our own eyes can see. We should say one thing to ourselves: I am lucky to have what I had in my life now, and I should never give up any seconds any minutes, as things happened differently every day, and new challenges await for me. And there it is, I saw many interesting things when I was coming down: The plants, trees, flowers and much more. Of course, not mud (if you ask me, I can hardly describe how interesting mud is)!

Finally, I reached and it showed 230pm, so my record for climbing the whole Mt Irau (2110m) was 6.5 hours, but I was already half dead, seriously tired. The funniest part was, Kenny See sacrificed her shoes! Her 10 years shoes were finally torn and she has an excuse to buy new sport shoes then.

And again, we had our late lunch, lots of food I will say, by Chef Mervyn, plus with a refreshing brewed coffee. After gaining back much power, we cleaned up the place, and we decided to stop by at Felda Residences, for a nice hot spring. The hot spring was just nice for us who just finish hiking at Mt Irau. It was indeed a good journey, as my first camping and hiking and hot spring activities are done within two days.

So, there it is. Have you tried to hike? Will you dare? Come on, we should try everything when there is a chance. (well, of course, only for those you are interested in, and not calling you to try everything, from digging a hole to fly a plane!), unless you could, and when you believe you can, you can, just do not keep on busy working till neglect so many good things around you.
