Nyonya Food Aunty Nat @ Sri Hartamas

3 Feb 2016 - CNY is coming and most of us from the corporate or the company will have some reunion meal with our boss.

In my case, ah ha, nyonya food! Pam suggested Aunty Nat in Sri Hartamas.

Open air with no door stopping you, inside is the classic cooling fans and aircond as well. dark brown furniture with old styled floor tiles make you feel like they are the real 'nyonya'. Let's see how are their food and drinks.

Was craving for soya cincau, probably this is not the signature, but just because I want to drink it.

Pai/Pie Tee or top Hats. Pie Tee is a thin and crispy pastry tart shell kuih filled with a spicy, sweet mixture of thinly sliced vegetables and prawns. It is a popular Peranakan dish. I was like biting it like a child eating crispy crackers, while the fillings are full of spiciness and sweetness. fraganct tiny eggs and chinese turnips make the Pie Tee even more delicious.

Ayam Goreng Kunyit. When it comes to tumeric, basically it is aromatic in any fried dish, and the chicken are in small and bite sizes, making you using the hands to just grab and bite it on!

Well, everyone always order kangkung goren belacan. Normally this is not my favorite, but it was crunchy when I took a bite on it. spice paste, dried shrimp, chilli slices, and kangkong, fry all, you get this dish.

Assam fish. spicy yet not too sour, so what's in it?

some people cook Assam fish  using the big fish body slices, some just one medium fish sizes, ladies fingers, tomatoes, laksa leaf, tamarind paste (assam jawa), red chillies, lemon grass (serai), belacan (shrimp paste) and turmeric powder, some big onions and garlic complete the whole dish. this one is super spicy for me, I eat it with rice.

Steamed otak-otak - (Nyonya Fish Custard Wrapped with Banana Leaves). this dish gives you the taste of a little bit of sweetness and spicy all the way.

Salted egg fried squid - salted egg always same with turmeric, when it comes to have these 2 flavours, any fried food or snacks are just good to be tasty! Oh ya, curry leaves along as well.

Finally, some nyonya dessert, the classic cendol with coconut milk and the green cendol (made of tapioca, rice and rice flour), as well as bubur cha-cha. This was too sweet for me. But in such a hot day, we can't complain!

So this is the grid photo of the day:

Overall, thumbs up for Aunty Nat nyonya food. All food are so delicious, and I feel like coming back again.
